Getting Started as a Priest

In the realm of Vagabond's Quest, priests are the most well-balanced class when it comes to magic and combat. While possessing spells that can easily end a fight, priests are also formidable fighters. So, when your SP runs out, you still have an edge in the battle.

At first, priests may seem like a weak class, and this may be true in the early stages of gameplay. However, being a priest can really pay off in the long run, as you develop fighting skills and learn powerful spells. Another big advantage priests have is the ability to learn many different healing spells.

Priests start off with 25 HP and 25 SP, and unlike the other classes, they gain a fixed amount of 1 HP and 1 SP per level. You start out with six natural spells: Minor Harm, Minor Heal, Major Harm, Major Heal, Flame and Holy Rain. When you reach 40/40, you will learn another spell, Mind Kill. Other priest spells such as the devastating Unworldly Death spell can be learned by purchasing them from the Priests' Hall.

Before you're ready to tear into the Vagabond's Quest arena and start destroying your friends, you'll need to equip yourself with a weapon and some type of armor. You can purchase weapons and armor from the weapons shop and the armor shop (which show up on the main menu before you enter the arena), or you can purchase specialized items from the Priests' Hall. However, since you're just starting out, you have a very small budget to work with. You'll want to buy items from the normal shops at this point. You may be inclined to feel that armor won't be necessary because your priest could kill it's opponent with one Holy Rain spell. This is not true. Armor is a necessity when starting out in Vagabond's Quest. However, before you blow all your gold on armor, you must keep in mind that you'll also need a weapon to defend yourself whenever you run out of SP. In the beginning stages of gameplay, all you'll really need as a priest is a melee weapon and a shield. You should budget your money so you can buy a decent melee weapon and then have some gold left to purchase a shield. After you've made your purchases, it's time to get in the arena and fight!

There are some strategies you may want to keep in mind when your fighting as a priest. It is NOT a good idea to blow all of your SP on one powerful spell, because it will not always work. Instead of casting a strong spell like Holy Rain, you might want to cast a smaller spell like Flame. This way, you still have some SP left over for healing spells. When you begin to gain more SP, then you can start using Holy Rain and still have a spell or two in reserve.

One of the great things about priests is that they fight well against all of the other classes. Fighters and thieves are more susceptible to spells, while tracers and wizards are weaker against weapons. However, one thing to keep in mind when you challenge people is not to challenge anyone who is too strong for you. For example, if you challenge a fighter or thief with three times as many HP as you, you are going to lose. Likewise, if you challenge a wizard with a lot of SP, you'll be lucky to survive. Be sure to fight people who are fairly close to your level. As you progress and gain more spells and better weapons and armor (which can always be obtained from the shops and the Priest Hall, and later on the Dragon Hall, which has some VERY powerful spells) and you start to become more powerful, then you can see how you fare against some tougher opponents.
